Pastoral transition

BRIDGING THE GAP THROUGH PRAYER

Thank you for praying with us during this season of transition. All prayer points and corresponding verses are below. We encourage you to utilize this 31-day prayer campaign to continue to pray for our Pastoral Search Committee, the church family, and our Pastor Next. We are grateful to have a church body that believes and trusts in the power of prayer. Let's continue to lean into Him during this transition season!

HOW DO WE SELECT A NEW PASTOR?

STEP ONE: FIND NOMINATING TEAM
STEP TWO: COLLECT NOMINATIONS
STEP THREE: BALLOT IS CREATED

STEP FOUR: CHURCH VOTES
We are pleased to announce that the ballot passed by 97% on May 29/30.

STEP FIVE: PASTORAL SEARCH BEGINS

The Pastoral Search Committee will work independently, yet openly with the Personnel Committee and the Executive Team. We are planning for this search process to take about 6-12 months.

STEP SIX: VOTE TO CALL NEW PASTOR

After the Pastoral Search Committee recommends a specific candidate to the church membership, a season of interaction with the candidate will ensue. This season will consist of opportunities to hear his testimony and how the Lord has been working in his heart as well as the opportunity to hear him preach. The final selection of a new Senior Pastor will come by no less than a 2/3 vote of the membership present for the vote in accordance with EBC’s stated By-Laws.

STEP SEVEN: WELCOME OUR NEW PASTOR!

The greater Easthaven family gets to continue in one of our strengths – to love our Pastor!

SUMMARY FROM THE TOWN HALL MEETING (JULY 25)

DETAILS ABOUT OUR INTERIM PASTOR, MIKE WELLS

We are looking forward to having Pastor Mike Wells at the beginning of August. During the meeting, we reviewed the document: Churches Using Interim Pastors Become Healthier (CLICK HERE TO READ). We also reviewed the document: Interim Pastor Ministries Intentional Process (CLICK HERE TO READ). Our Interim Pastor, Mike Wells, will be using the above process and the results of our Church Health Assessment as tools while he serves here. We walked through each point of the Interim Pastor Requested Roles and Responsibilities document (CLICK HERE TO READ).

Pastor Mike Wells was born in 1951 and served in New Castle, Pennsylvania for 30 years. Over the past 6+ years, he has been working with Interim Pastor Ministries. He has served at four churches, each going through a pastoral transition and he comes with excellent references. One of those churches he served as the Interim Pastor was of a similar size to us. Our Interim Pastor cannot be a pastor at Easthaven in the future. He has signed a contract for a minimum of three months and we hope he will serve until our “pastor next” is here. Pastor Mike Wells will arrive on Monday, August 1. There will be a meet and greet for Pastor Mike Wells after each service on August 6-7. On August 13-14, he will be preaching all four services in our Elevate sermon series.

UPDATE ON THE INTERIM WORSHIP POSITION

Pastor Andy gave us an update on the Interim Worship position. It is impossible to replace Vicki as the Worship Service Director, but it has been awesome to see our church family continue to praise Jesus throughout all the transitions. We have selected the person to be the Interim Worship Service Leader and will update the church family together this weekend, July 30-31. Pastor Andy will still be involved with Classic Services periodically, but this person will be the main leader and primary decision-maker for Classic Services. They will work to create an environment to connect with Jesus each weekend, share their passion for the Classic music style, and love on and coach the Classic worship team volunteers.

PASTORAL SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE

  • Staff Health and healing
  • Interim Pastor
  • Clear communication throughout the entire process
  • Pray for wisdom for the Search Committee, Executive Team, and Personnel Committee

DO WE NEED AN INTERIM PASTOR?

This answer is two-pronged.

  1. The first consideration is how we as a congregation care for the seven full-time pastors on staff (not including Pastor Daniel). It’s not outside the scope of reality that, with the seven pastors that we currently have on staff, we could set up a preaching rotation for the next 12 months. This means they would cover at least 208 services. This would be on top of the full-time, specific work they currently do. We firmly believe that consistency in the pulpit offers additional stability during the time that the Pastoral Search Committee is working.

  1. The second consideration is how we as a pastoral staff best care for the congregation? Rotation in the pulpit would likely add additional disconnection during an unsettled season for the congregation. At this time, we do not see this additional load to be a viable solution that cares for the pastors as individuals and leaders in their homes.

The Personnel Committee in collaboration with the Executive Pastoral Team has been in contact with Interim Pastor Ministries (interimpastors.com). They are a 33-year-old organization with a solid belief statement. Some of you will remember our previous interim, Pastor Sam Shaw. He is currently serving with this organization.
